Description: Caespitose perennials to c. 90 cm tall.

Sheaths pilose or ciliolate with tubercle-based hairs or scaberulous on the outer or both margins; orifice with fine hairs <5 mm long; ligule 0.2–0.3 mm long; blade involute or flatt, <2.5 mm wide, sometimes with scattered hairs.

Inflorescence to c. 50 cm long, 6 cm wide, with distant branches 2–9 cm long; pedicles 0.5–1.5 mm long. Spikelets to c. 25 mm long, 2.5 mm wide, to c. 60-flowered; rachilla zig-zag, persistent after lemmas fall and tardily deciduous. Glumes subequal, 0.9–2.8 mm long, acute or acuminate. Lemmas 1.5–2.3 mm long, deciduous, acute or acuminate, scaberulous on keels and sometimes near the margins; palea persistent of rachilla and tardily deciduous.

Caryopsis c. 0.6 mm long, laterally compressed.
