Eragrostis trachycarpa (Benth.) Domin APNI*

Description: Tufted perennial to 0.8 m high.

Leaves with sheath smooth, glabrous; orifice occasionally with scattered hairs to 2 mm long; ligule a ciliate rim with hairs to 0.25 mm long; blade rolled and bristle-like or flat, to 3 mm wide, smooth or scabrous, glabrous.

Inflorescence open, usually c. 50% of plant height, 15–45 cm long, 8–25 cm wide; branches slender, appressed at first, later spreading; axils of lower primary branches pilose with hair to 3 mm long; pedicels 2–25 mm long, scabrous, glabrous. Spikelets 1.5–5 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, florets 1–6; rachilla often extended as a sterile projection to 1 mm long. Glumes 1–1.5 mm long, acute, keeled, smooth, glabrous; keel scabrous. Lemmas c. 1.5 mm long, acute, keeled, upper 50% often scabrous, glabrous; keel scabrous. Palea subequal to lemma, 2-keeled, glabrous.


Flowering: summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in woodland and native pasture.
