Erodium aureum Carolin APNI*

Description: Dwarf annual or short-lived herb to 20 cm high, stems with soft non-glandular and glandular hairs.

Basal leaves ± pinnatifid or ternately dissected; lamina oblong to ovate in outline, 1.8–3.5 cm long, 0.7–1.5 cm wide, 3–5 primary lobes with lobes toothed, covered with mostly glandular hairs; petiole to 2 cm long, hairy.

Flowers in umbels of 2–5; peduncle 3–5 cm long; pedicels 1–1.5 cm long. Sepals 5–8 mm long, hairy with glandular and non-glandular hairs. Petals c. 8 mm long, pink to mauve with darker veins.

Fruit 3–4 cm long; mericarps hirsute, both the pit and the furrow well-defined and with large glandular hairs.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in open communities, chiefly in Ivanhoe and Broken Hill districts. Probably native of SW Asia.
