Frankenia gracilis Summerh. APNI*

Description: Low shrub with slender, often prostrate branches.

Leaves linear to oblong or occasionally oblanceolate, 2–7 mm long, upper surface usually glabrous and punctate, lower surface pubescent, midrib often exposed, glabrous.

Flowers in much-branched open dichasia; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves but shorter. Calyx 5–9 mm long, often tinged pink to red, base with ± dense short hooked hairs, extending to the sides of ribs. Petals 8–11 mm long. Stamens 6.

Seeds smooth.


Flowering: spring to summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Usually grows on salt pans; widespread.
