Description: Robust herb, 70–120 cm high.

Leaves 30–50 cm long, 1–2 cm broad.

Inflorescence with up to 10 flowers; spathaceous bracts 5–7 cm long, narrowly acute, inner one slightly shorter than outer, upper ones empty; perianth 7–12 cm long; perianth tube narrow at base, curved, 3–5 cm long; lobes unequal, c. 4–6 cm long, 5–7 cm broad, orange-apricot, yellow, pink, red, purple, white, white with pink margins. Anthers c. 2 cm long.

Distribution and occurrence: Lord Howe Island, where escaped from cultivation into Stevens Reserve Walk; also Norfolk Island. Occasional garden escape in mainland NSW, and may become naturalised.

This name is considered of dubious status but a more acceptable name is not known yet. It covers most large-flowered hybrid gladioli (of a wide range of usually vivid flower colours) in cultivation, resulting from crosses between 4 or 5 species.
