Description: Prostrate to decumbent short-lived herb to 40 cm high.Basal leaves ± thick, oblanceolate, 3–6 cm long, 4–12 mm wide, with strigose hairs, margins lyrate to entire.

Flowers in ± secund racemes with small bracts, glandular hairy; stalks 6–11 mm long, without bracteoles. Sepals mostly ovate, 1–1.6 mm long, fused to ovary for about two-thirds its length. Corolla 4–6 mm long, yellow, often with purplish brown near base, pubescent outside, villous to pubescent inside; wings c. 0.2 mm wide. Indusium depressed-obovate, c. 0.6 mm long.

Fruit globose, 2.5–3 mm diam.; valves often falling leaving the septum attached to stalk; seeds circular, c. 2 mm diam., black, glossy; wing c. 0.5 mm wide, white, mucilaginous, overlapping the body of the seed.


Flowering: chiefly July–October

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in a variety of drier communities, recorded from Louth district.
