Description: Perennial herb or subshrub 50–100 cm high; branches usually hairy or rarely ± glabrous.

Leaves ovate to lanceolate, 10–90 mm long, 4–25 mm wide, apex ± acuminate, margins ± entire, both surfaces usually hairy; petiole 5–15 mm long.

Inflorescences terminal or axillary; involucre 5–9 mm long, 1 or 2 at each node but sometimes clustered due to reduction of branches. Calyx shorter than involucre. Corolla tube 5–6 mm long, usually white; lips 6–14 mm long, pink or mauve, sometimes with darker purple and/or white areas on upper lip, rarely all white.

Capsule 9–12 mm long, glabrous or sometimes with hairy apex.
