Leptospermum spectabile Joy Thomps. APNI*

Description: Shrub to 3 m, bark close, firm and ultimately corrugated, younger stems with long antrorse and shorter curved hairs, short crisped hairs persisting.

Leaves narrow-elliptic, 20–35 mm long, 3–5 mm wide, almost flat, ultimately almost glabrous; apex long-acute to long-acuminate, point stiff; base tapering to a short ± thickened petiole.

Flowers solitary, c. 20 mm diam., dark red. Hypanthium 4–5 mm long, silky. Sepals c. 4 mm long, silky. Petals 5–7 mm long. Stamens 5–7 mm long. Ovary 4- or 5-locular.

Fruit 9–12 mm diam., rim not woody, valves woody and spreading to the width of the rim or beyond.
