Lindernia procumbens (Krock.) Philcox APNI*

Description: Erect annual herb to 22 cm high, glabrous except for margins of leaves, bracts and sepals scabrous with antrorse hairs, sometimes surface of sepals scabrous.

Leaves elliptic to ovate, 8–20 mm long, 3–11 mm wide, apex acute, margins entire or ± crenate, 3–5-veined from base; sessile.

Inflorescence a raceme or panicle with flowers single in axil of bracts; bracts leaf-like; pedicels 10–22 mm long. Sepals free except at base, 2–3 mm long. Corolla 2-lipped, 3–6 mm long, white or pale pink. Stamens 4, didynamous; 2 lower filaments with a spur 0.4–1 mm long.

Capsule broad-ellipsoid, 3–3.5 mm long.


Flowering: recorded February

Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized in Richmond R. district late last century. Native of Eurasia, Malesia.
