Litsea australis B.Hyland APNI*

Synonyms: Litsea leefeana (F.Muell.) Merr. APNI*

Description: Tree to 20 m, older trees with scaly bark marked by depressions.

Leaves narrow-elliptic to oblanceolate, usually 6–14 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, apex obtuse or bluntly pointed, margins opaque, lower surface hairy, secondary veins prominently raised below and extending nearly to margins; petiole 10–15 mm long.

Umbels clustered, peduncle 3–10 mm long; bracts enclosing flowers densely hairy. Flowers ca 3 mm long.

Fruit c. 15 mm long, purple to black, often only one formed from each inflorescence.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in warmer rainforest on the coast and lower ranges, especially common in littoral rainforest; north from Forster.
