Description: Glabrous annual to 3 m high; stems 4-angled ± winged.

Leaves alternate, linear to oblong-lanceolate, 10–20 cm long, 5–25 mm wide, reducing in size up the stem.

Flowers solitary in upper leaf axils; bracteoles lanceolate, on ovary base or upper pedicel. Sepals 4 or 5, ovate. Petals 4 or 5, 20–25 mm long, yellow. Stamens 8 or 10.

Fruit oblong to narrow-oblong, 10–35 mm long, 4–8 mm diam., 4-angled, readily dehiscent; seeds in each loculus in several rows, free.
