Lythrum paradoxum Koehne APNI* Description: Annual or perennial herb, erect, 0.4–0.6(-1) m high; stems glabrous, ribbed to winged.
Leaves alternate, sessile, narrow-ovate to linear, 5–70 mm long, 1–10 mm wide, apex acute, base ± rounded.
Inflorescences of 1–7-flowered clusters in the axils of leaves. Flowers homostylous. Hypanthium 4–6 mm long. Sepals 4–6, triangular, c. 1 mm long; appendages c. three times as long, narrow-triangular. Petals 4–6, 2–4 mm long, pink to purple. Stamens double the number of the petals, exserted.
Capsule dehiscing by 4 valves.
Flowering: Late Summer to early Autumn.
Distribution and occurrence: NSW, Moree area. Also occurs in Qld, SA, WA, NT. Grows in damp places on heavy soils.
