Description: Robust tufted perennial sedge. Culms 1–2 m high, smooth.

Leaves mainly basal, laterally compressed, equitant at base, 1–1.8 m tall, 2–3 cm wide, smooth.

Inflorescence panicle-like, much branched, 10–20 cm long; spikelets very numerous, brown, 5–6 mm long, 3–4 mm diam.; basal 2–3 glumes sterile; next 2–3 glumes fertile 4–5 mm long; terminal glume small; hypogynous bristles 3, c. 6 mm long; stamens 3; style 3-fid.

Nut trigonous, narrow-ellipsoid, c. 2 mm long, brown, crowned by 'corky' base of style.

Distribution and occurrence: Endemic to Lord Howe Island.

On rocky slopes and summits of Mts Gower and Lidgbird.
