Monotaxis linifolia Brongn. APNI*

Description: Subshrub with thick woody base and numerous, thin, wiry, ascending or diffuse stems, mostly 15–30 cm long, glabrous.

Leaves distant, not numerous; lamina variable, lanceolate to linear and entire or ovate to cuneate and sometimes toothed, 8–18 mm long, 1–4 mm wide, apex ± acute.

Flowers minute, white, in dense clusters of c. 12 males surrounding a solitary, ± sessile, female flower. Male flowers smaller than females; sepals 4 or 5, petals much shorter than the sepals.

Capsule globose, c. 2.5 mm long.


Flowering: spring to summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Widespread, on wet ground on sandstone.
