Monotaxis macrophylla Benth. APNI*

Description: Erect herb to c. 25 cm high, slightly branched, glabrous.

Leaves oblong or ovate-oblong, 25–50 mm long, 2–15 mm wide, apex obtuse, margins entire or shortly toothed, thin.

Flowers yellow, in dense, terminal, shortly stalked clusters; female flowers usually 1–4 mixed with or surrounded by numerous males. Male flowers with 4 sepals c. 1.5 mm long; petals 4, minute; stamens 7 or 8. Female flowers similar in appearance.

Capsule globose, 2–3 mm long. Flowering Aug.


Distribution and occurrence: Rare; isolated on rocky ridges and hillsides.
