Nymphaea alba L. APNI*

Description: Perennials with strong, vigorous horizontal rhizomes producing roots all along.

Leaves broad-elliptic to circular, with a radial slit, to 20 cm long, margins slightly sinuate.

Flowers cream, white, pink, red, or orange. Stamens flattened, loculi joined laterally, anther appendages mostly present. Ovary globose with 10–20 stigmatic lobes.

Seeds mostly not formed.


Distribution and occurrence: Generally cultivated, occasionally maintaining itself vegetatively after introduction into water bodies.
