Description: Shrub to 2 m high.

Leaves alternate, scattered; lamina ovate or elliptic, 20–110 mm long, 8–35 mm wide; apex acute, with or without a mucro; margins toothed or prickly, flat; surfaces discolorous, upper surface subglabrous, lower surface brown-tomentose; venation pinnate; petiole to 10 mm long.

Heads terminal, in simple loose corymbs, pedunculate, 14–29 mm diam.; peduncle to 35 mm long. Ray florets 9–20, white. Disc florets 15–40, yellow.

Achenes glabrous or subglabrous; pappus with 29–45 long bristles in 2 series, and an outer row of short bristles.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in sclerophyll forest or open woodland; widespread in coastal districts north from Gosford district, inland to Torrington.
