Parantennaria uniceps (F.Muell.) Beauverd APNI*

Description: Small densely-tufted or shortly creeping herb, 1–3 cm high.

Leaves linear or linear-cuneate, acute, mucronate, 7–15 mm long, 0.5–2 mm wide, rigid, concave above, bases scarious and often purplish, stem-clasping.

Heads 4–6 mm diam., campanulate to hemispherical, female heads more slender than bisexual ones, at first ± sessile among uppermost leaves, fertile ones later pedunculate; involucral bracts 3- or 4-seriate, broadly oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, 3–5 mm long, obtuse or inner ones acute, brown or purplish.

Achenes 0.6–1 mm long; pappus 3–4 mm long.

Flowering: summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows at higher elevations in alpine and subalpine habitats, at lower elevations in cold wet gullies; chiefly in Kosciusko N.P. and at Mt Gingera (A.C.T.).
