Description: Dense dwarf rhizomatous shrub to 10 cm high; stems flaky, often subterranean.

Seedling leaves broadly obovate, 7–9 mm long, c. 5 mm wide; apex acute to 3-toothed. Adult leaves usually narrowly elliptic, 10–14 mm long, 4–5 mm wide, margin entire or with minute teeth towards apex, minutely ciliate, shortly recurved and slightly thickened on lower surface, glabrous.

Flowers solitary, terminal; pedicels 2–5 mm long, hairy. Sepals c. 4 mm long, minutely ciliate. Petals 6–8 mm long, cream-coloured to white with apex tinged pink. Stamens with filaments tapering from base to apex; anthers triangular, less than 1 mm long. Ovary noticeably flattened, green, glabrous; style slightly elongated; stigma mostly insignificant.

Fruit capsule-like, indehiscent, laterally compressed, c. 5 mm long, 4–6 mm diameter, usually 2-locular, glabrous; pedicel erect; style persistent.

Flowering: Flowers early summer; fruits often persisting from one year to the next.

Distribution and occurrence: Occurs in the Snowy Mountains (Kosciuszko National Park) and the A.C.T. (Southern Tablelands).

Grows in moist areas of heath, grassland or sclerophyll (mainly Eucalyptus pauciflora) open woodland at altitudes above 1000 m.
