Trachymene thysanocarpa J.M.Hart APNI*

Description: Erect ephemeral herb, to 60 cm high; sparsely glandular hairy on new growth, becoming glabrous.

Leaves 3–5-lobed to dissected, lamina ovate in outline, 1.5–4 cm long, 2–5 cm wide; segments elliptic or ovate, 1.5–11 mm wide; petiole 1–7 cm long.

Umbels borne in dichasial cymes subtended by sessile leaf-like bracts, each umbel 15–30 mm diam., 50–120 flowered; peduncle 4–12 cm long. Bracts 18–24, 4–7 mm long. Flowers bisexual. Petals 1.3–1.8 mm long, white. Ovary 2-locular.

Fruit broad ovate, 4.5–5.5 mm long, brown; both mericarps maturing. Mericarps 3.2–3.8 mm wide, papillate and fringed by two rows of triangular papillae 0.1–0.2 mm long on the dorsal margin. Carpophores entire, 1.9–2.8 mm long.


Flowering: Flowers October–December

Distribution and occurrence: Found in mallee communities following fires, occasionally found in open woodland or grassland, south from Kudgee Lake (west of Menindee).
