Trichosanthes subvelutina F.Muell. ex Cogn. APNI*

Description: Climber with stems to several metres long, usually densely pubescent; monoecious.

Tendrils 2-branched.

Leaves with lamina shallowly to deeply 3–5-lobed, 4–12 cm long, 5–17 cm wide, pubescent, often velvety-brown on lower surface; petiole 2–10 cm long. Male racemes 4–8-flowered, 12–20 cm long, peduncle 10–16 cm long, pedicels 1–2 cm long. Female pedicels 6–8 cm long. Hypanthium 3–4.5 cm long. Corolla lobes 2–2.5 cm long, white.

Fruit 8–12 cm long, ridged, glabrescent; seeds c. 10 mm long.


Distribution and occurrence: Grows on margins and within rainforest, also in moist eucalypt forest, north from Richmond R.
