Field Characters: Large canopy tree or Emergent tree (up to 40 m high); Bole cylindrical (up to c. 80 cm diam.); straight (bole up to 25 m long); buttresses slightly buttresses present; spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark pale brown, mostly smooth; less than 25 mm thick; bark blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; resinous/linament-like (aromatic like 'lawang' oil); outer blaze pink or pale brown, markings absent; inner blaze pale brown or pink, markings absent; bark exudate (sap) absent; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.
Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) absent.
Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches (aromatic when crushed), opposite (in pairs, opposite one another on the branchlet) (to subopposite), simple (a leaf composed of a single blade); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, not swollen or slightly swollen; leaves broadest below middle or broadest at or near middle, 7.5-15.0 cm, 4.5-6.5 cm; symmetric, entire, not dissected or lobed, obtuse or acuminate (shortly), venation trinerved, secondary veins open, not prominent, but visible, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface blue-green or pale green, upper surface dark green (glossy), indumentum (hairs) absent; present; domatia absent; stipules absent.
Flowers: Inflorescence axillary, flowers on a branched axis, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked, flowers with many planes of symmetry, 3.5-5.0 mm long, diameter small (up to10 mm diam.) (3-4 mm diam.); perianth present, with all sepals and/or petals (hence tepals) similar, inner perianth white; 3, free; stamens 9, present, free of each other, free of the perianth; ovary superior, carpels solitary, locules 1; styles solitary, 1.
Fruits: Infrutescence arranged on branched axis, fruit 12.0-14.0 mm long, 8.0-10.0 mm diam., almost black or dark green, not spiny, slightly fleshy, simple, indehiscent, drupe; seeds 1 (blue-black), about 10 mm long (10-12 mm long), not winged, broad (as wide as long), seed 1-10 mm diam. (8-10 mm diam.).
Distribution: East Sepik or Central.
