Field Characters: Large trees 25-35 m high. Bole cylindrical 50-100 cm diam.; mostly straight bole 8-28 m long; buttresses absent; spines absent; aerial roots absent; stilt roots absent. Bark brown or grey, rough, scaly or flaky; subrhytidome brown; bark thickness <25 mm thick, 12.0 mm thick; blaze consisting of one layer; faintly to non-aromatic; outer blaze brown, markings absent, fibrous; inner blaze brown, markings absent, fibrous; exudate absent. Terminal buds not enclosed by leaves; complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig without hairs.
Leaves: Spaced along branches <internodes readily visible>. Leaves spiral, simple; petiole present petiole 30-55 mm long, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade <not peltate>, not swollen; lamina broadest at or near middle, (8.0-) 10.0-17.0 cm long, 4.5-12.0 cm wide; lamina symmetric, margin entire, not dissected or lobed, apex rounded or obtuse, venation pinnate <secondary veins arising from the midrib along its length>, secondary veins open <spaced far apart to easily see tertiary veins>, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; lower surface pale green, upper surface green, hairs absent; oil dots absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.
Flowers: Inflorescence axillary <from between a leaf and branch> or sub terminal <at branch ends>. Flowers on a branched axis wit 2-4 flowers; flowers bisexual, stalked pedicel 25-30 mm long, with many planes of symmetry <actinomorphic>, 25.0-30.0 mm long, large (>10 mm diam.) 35-50 mm diam., flower buds about 20 mm diam.; perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals petals not persistent, not known in open flowers; inner perianth 5 (based on sepal number), free; stamens c. 60, filaments present, free of each other, free of perianth; ovary superior <seated above petals and sepals; hypogenous>, carpels separate (when more than one) <apocarpous>, locules 7-10; styles free <more than one style, entirely free from each other> about 7 mm long, 5.
Fruits: Fruits arranged on branched axis however, fruits unknown. Simple based on flower.
Distribution: Morobe, Central, Milne Bay, New Britain, Northern & Papuan Islands.
