Field Characters: Large canopy tree (rarely up to 25 m high) or Small sub-canopy tree; Bole cylindrical (up to c. 50 cm diam.); straight (bole up to c. 18 m long); buttresses buttresses absent; spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark grey or pale brown, rough, fissured; Subrhytidome (under-bark) green; bark blaze with two layers; faintly to non-aromatic; spice-like (faintly (pepper-like aroma); outer blaze white, yellow (pale (cream-coloured), pale orange, or slightly brown, markings absent; inner blaze white or yellow (pale (straw-coloured), markings absent; bark exudate (sap) absent; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) present, hairs sparse.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), simple (a leaf composed of a single blade); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, not swollen or swollen (often (at base); leaves sometimes broadest above middle, usually broadest at or near middle, or sometimes broadest below middle, (6.0-) 10.0-35.0 (-46.0) cm, 3.0-15.0 (-20.0) cm; symmetric, entire, not dissected or lobed, acuminate, venation pinnate, secondary veins open, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface green, upper surface dull dark green, indumentum (hairs) present, indumentum (hairs) dense or sparse; absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence terminal, flowers single, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked, flowers with many planes of symmetry, 15.0-50.0 (-65.0) mm long, diameter large (more than10 mm diam.) (20-30 mm diam.); perianth present, with all sepals and/or petals (hence tepals) similar, inner perianth white or cream-coloured; 6-(outer perianth 3)-9, free; stamens 8-13 (-15), absent, free of each other, free of the perianth; ovary superior, carpels separate (when more than one), locules 1; styles free, 5-(at least)-50.

Fruits: Infrutescence single, fruit 40.0-75.0 (-85.0) mm long, 55.0 mm diam., red or brown, not spiny, non-fleshy, aggregate, dehiscent, capsule (opening at top (circumscissile) of fertilised carpel); seeds 1-(per carpel)-2, about 10 mm long or much more than 10 mm long (6-20 mm long), not winged, narrow (longer than wide), seed 1-10 mm diam. (7-10 mm diam.).

Distribution: West Sepik, Morobe, Eastern Highlands & Southern Highlands.
