Field Characters: Large canopy tree (up to 30 m high); Bole markedly fluted (up to c. 50 cm diam.); crooked (bole up to c. 20 m long); buttresses buttresses present; spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark brown, rough, slightly pustular, scaly or flaky, or fissured, lenticels irregular; Subrhytidome (under-bark) pink or white; less than 25 mm thick, 15.0 (c.); bark blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; unpleasant; outer blaze pale yellow or white, markings absent; inner blaze white or pale yellow, markings absent; bark exudate (sap) present, colourless, not readily flowing (spotty), colour changing on exposure to air, to red (pale (pink), not sticky; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.
Indumentum: Complex hairs present; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) present, hairs sparse.
Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), simple (a leaf composed of a single blade); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, not swollen; leaves broadest below middle, 6.0-21.0 cm, 4.0-10.5 cm; symmetric, entire, not dissected or lobed, acute, venation pinnate, secondary veins closed, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves indumentum (hairs) present, sparse; absent; domatia absent; stipules present, free, laterally placed, not encircling the twig, scale-like or collar-like, not fringed, large, persistent.
Flowers: Inflorescence axillary, flowers on a branched axis, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked, flowers with many planes of symmetry; perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals whorls.
Distribution: Morobe.
