Field Characters: Large trees 25 m high. Bole cylindrical 60-100 cm diam.; straight bole 20 m long; buttresses present 1 m high; spines absent; aerial roots absent; stilt roots absent. Bark pale brown, rough, pustular or scaly or flaky; lenticels irregular; subrhytidome red or brown; bark thickness <25 mm thick, 10.0 mm thick; blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; pleasant cherry-like; outer blaze red or brown, with stripes, fibrous; inner blaze red or brown, with stripes, fibrous; exudate present, colourless, spotty, not changing colour on exposure to air, sticky. Terminal buds not enclosed by leaves; complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig without hairs.
Leaves: Spaced along branches <internodes readily visible>. Leaves spiral, compound; petiole present up to 18.5 cm long, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade <not peltate>, not swollen; leaves with three leaflets; petiolule swollen <at tip, or base, or both> on both tip and base; each leaflet broadest at or near middle, (6.0-) 4.0-11.0 (-30.0) cm long, 5.0-7.5 cm wide, leaflets arranged from one point, symmetric, terminal developing leaflet buds straight; venation pinnate <secondary veins arising from the midrib along its length>, secondary veins open <spaced far apart to easily see tertiary veins>, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; lower surface green or pale green, upper surface pale green or glossy green, hairs absent; oil dots absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.
Flowers: Inflorescence axillary <from between a leaf and branch>. Flowers on a branched axis; flowers bisexual, stalked, with many planes of symmetry <actinomorphic>, 10.0 mm long, small (< or =10 mm diam.) about 10 mm diam.; perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals, yellow or green; inner perianth 5, some or partly joined joined at base; stamens 10, filaments present, joined <connate> forming a staminal tube with 10 split teeth at apex, free of perianth; ovary superior <seated above petals and sepals; hypogenous>, carpels joined (when more than one) <syncarpous>, locules 5; styles solitary <including joined together>, 1.
Fruits: Fruits arranged on branched axis. Fruit 40-75 mm long, 40.0-75.0 mm diam., fruit orange, dull yellow, or pale red tinge, not spiny, fleshy pleasantly aromatic like ripe peaches, simple, indehiscent, drupe. Seeds 5, much more than 10 mm long, not winged, longer than wide.
