Field Characters: Large canopy tree (15-30 m high) or Small sub-canopy tree; Bole cylindrical (40-127 cm diam.); straight (mostly bole usually 11-23 m long); buttresses buttresses present (buttresses to c. 1 m high) or buttresses absent (or slightly fluted at base); spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark grey or brown, slightly rough or smooth, slightly scaly or flaky; Subrhytidome (under-bark) yellow or green; less than 25 mm thick; bark blaze consisting of one layer; faintly to non-aromatic; outer blaze white or yellow (pale (cream-coloured), with stripes, smooth or slightly fibrous; inner blaze white or yellow (pale (cream-coloured), with stripes, smooth or slightly fibrous; bark exudate (sap) absent; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) absent.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, opposite (in pairs, opposite one another on the branchlet), compound (a leaf made up from two or more leaflets); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, slightly swollen; leaves palmate (with more than three leaflets attached at one point to the stalk) (mostly with 3 leaflets, rarely with 5); petiolule swollen (at base); leaves sometimes broadest above middle, broadest at or near middle, or sometimes broadest below middle, (10.0-) 12.0-20.0 (-25.0) cm, 4.0-8.0 cm, leaflets arranged from one point, symmetric (to very slightly asymmetric); venation pinnate, secondary veins open, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface pale green, upper surface dark green (sub-glossy) or green, indumentum (hairs) absent; absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence terminal, flowers on a branched axis, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked, flowers with one plane of symmetry, 8.0-10.0 mm long, diameter small (up to10 mm diam.) (5-7 mm diam.); perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals whorls, inner perianth blue or purple; 5, some or partly joined; stamens 4, present, free of each other, joined to the perianth; ovary superior, carpels joined (when more than one), locules 4; styles solitary, 1.

Fruits: Infrutescence arranged on branched axis, fruit 15.0-20.0 mm long, green (dark (possibly immature) or purple, not spiny, non-fleshy, simple, indehiscent or slightly dehiscent, capsule; seeds 1 (by abortion), much more than 10 mm long (12-15 mm long), not winged, narrow (longer than wide), seed 1-10 mm diam. (c. 6 mm diam.).

Distribution: West Sepik, East Sepik, Madang, Western, Gulf, Central & Northern.
