The LAE collection series started at LAE50000, began in March 1970, and replaced the NGF collection series that had started in 1944. The LAE collection series is still being used by collectors at the Papua New Guinea National Herbarium (LAE). This collection series number is sometimes confused with the LAE herbarium sheet number.
